Bears Love Cupcakes

[A tribute to last summer and a preview of what's to come...] Last summer me and my best bear conquered NYC together. We spent 12 fantastic weeks frolicking and exploring my favorite island in the world (for the moment). One of our favorite things to do was get coffee and cupcakes, and let me tell you, the lower east side of Manhattan is excellent place to live when you have a cupcake addiction. Summer is just better with cupcakes and iced coffees within walking distance.... FACT. I've listed below our favorite places to get cupcakes in the lower east side (all within a 4 block radius of where bear and I lived over the summer).

On a side note: I want to give a special shout out to Buttercream Cupcakes & Coffee here in Coral Gables for providing us with delicious cupcakes and reminding us that finals really aren't that bad and packing doesn't have to be that sad.

Cake Shop This place doesn't just have awesome cupcakes - they have awesome everything. After I moved into my dorm on Ludlow Street last summer this was the first place I went to. It became my summer coffee shop and I frequented this place of sheer awesome at least 4 times a week. They have AMAZING vegan and non-vegan cupcakes, delicious coffees, great drink specials on beers and wines for happy hour, and live shows in the basement every night. SERIOUSLY? WHEN CAN I MOVE IN?! Cake Shop, I am totz coming back for you... as fast as my little bear feet will carry me there!

Sugar Cafe This place rocks for three reasons: Firstly, A-MA-ZING red velvet cupcakes. Secondly, they serve breakfast at any time. And what a fantastic breakfast it is. Pancakes galore! Bacon bacon bacon nom nom nom. Thirdly? OPEN 24 HOURS. WHAT THE. I'm in love. The only place that I had a better breakfast was at the little place in Hell's Kitchen where we went for Sunday brunch with bottomless mimosas. But that's a different story for a different day hehe.

BabyCakes This little hole in the wall cupcake shop was recommended to me by my boss at MTV Networks last summer. Thanks Jason - this place rocks. You may not know this, but I have a mild obsession with carrot cake. Thanks to BabyCakes, I was able to have my first taste of a carrot cake cupcake. OHMAHGAWD SO TASTY. I need to find a good recipe for these and start home making them. Mmmm.

For future reference, all of these places are within a three or four block radius of the Delancey St/Essex St Subway station.

Happy cupcaking friends and please share your favorite sweet treat spots!
