Define Yourself

Lately I've been incredibly inspired by the lady friends of the School of Life Design community on Facebook and all the wonderful things they are doing to motivate themselves (and each other) every single day.

So here I am. Re-affirming the fact that I am something special. I have ALREADY arrived. And I'll be damned if I get scared into forgetting that simple truth.

I decided to make a list of all the things I am, and I realized that at the ripe age of 22 I have accomplished SO FREAKING MUCH.

There was a time not too long ago that I was all-consumed with a burning desire to figure out who I am and what my place in the world is. After making this list I realized that I've got a lot more going for myself than I could have ever imagined. How could I possibly be so consumed with the fear that I will never become something/someone of value when I already have so many awesome defining characteristics?

I AM....

  • A serious scribbler
  • A hobby shutterbug
  • An expert traveller
  • A professional giggler
  • An intense dancer
  • An apron-clad baker
  • A wine sniffer
  • A fantastic frolicker
  • An art admirer
  • A website designer
  • A superb snuggler
  • A sporadic adventurer
  • A shoe collector
  • A perfect organizer
  • A speed walker
  • A city lover
  • A great listener
  • A devoted reader
  • A whiskey swigger
  • A thrift store sifter
  • An Internet browser
  • A late night bather
  • A trilingual speaker (yeah, that's right)
  • A super fast knitter
  • A recipe inventor
  • A long distance driver
  • A SCUBA diver
  • A dinner party hoster
  • A freelance copywriter
  • An obsessive list maker
  • A sometimes meditator
  • A long walk taker
  • A dedicated helper
  • A board game player
  • A mustache wearer
  • A channel surfer
  • A very quick learner
  • A forever smiler

... I AM ME. AND THAT'S PRETTY FREAKING AWESOME.

And this was just the list off the top of my head. Imagine if I'd been planning this list for more than five minutes.

I highly advise all of you to make one of these lists and tape it up on your bathroom mirror. It's a wonderful thing to wake up to every morning and it's important to remember that we are not defined by what we do, or how much money we have, or how many promotions we've been given, or who we are dating, or who are friends are, or where we live, or how many vacations we have taken in the last year, or how many things we own.

We are defined by the things in life that make us proud of ourselves. Nobody can validate your life except for you. The sooner you realize how awesome you, the sooner the rest of the world will notice it too.

Awesome-saucity is a state of mind.

Enjoying the simple act of being, xx Nikbear
