Trends: Feb Fashion & Beauty Faves

Hellooooooo fans, friends, and followers! Welcome to my FIRST edition of Tuesday Things. Lemme break it down for ya real quick.... It's no secret that I love making lists. I do it in real life on scraps of paper, I've done it here on my blog in the form of Friday Favorites/Summer of Noms/TunesDaze, and I will do it for anything/everything that could really only benefit from having a list TILL THE DAY I DIE. Try and stop me. (Fun fact: You can't.)

So, I'm back at it (shocking) on my blog and I've sort of consolidated all the roundups I've been toying with into a Tuesday Things series to talk about my favorites in trends, tunes, tastes, and travels.

On the first Tuesday of every month I'll be dishing out some of my favorite trends in fashion/beauty/accessories. On the second Tuesday, I'll gift out my TunesDaze playlist for the month so you can jam along with me. On the third Tuesday, we'll take about delicious noms. (I'm hoping to attempt one spectacular culinary feat every month so there's a good chance that it will be a recipe and review.) And on the fourth Tuesday, I'll bring you the tales of one of my many adventures. Whether it be a girls' weekend, a fancy getaway, or just exploring a new neighborhood in New York - I'll be your on the ground reporter for domestic & international destinations. And if there's a fifth Tuesday we'll figure something out. (Let me know in the comments if there's something special you'd love for me to listify for you!)

So let's jump in with my Feb Fashion & Beauty Faves! (Important to note: these are not necessarily in sync with industry trends - these are just a few of my personal favorite things.)

February is a month to really embrace winter colors and clothing. If you live in the Northeast, you know that surprise snow storms and ice-cold wind are not to be taken lightly. Bundle up for safety!

As a true New Yorker, I've got a closet full of black, but this season I've decided to add shades of gray, dark red, and dark purple to my winter wear. All my scarves are varying shades of maroon/purple and my favorite coat this season just so happens to be a dark gray. Is gray the new black? I seem to think so. Let's make it a thing.

That's not to say that I've ditched the black. There is, in fact, even MORE black in my wardrobe now in the shape of embellished sweaters, high-neck dresses, and black & gold accessories for dayyyys.

I've also incorporated a whole slew of sparkly things to my winter wardrobe. Now, this might not seem like a trend, but anyone who knows anything about me knows that I am not usually a sparkle gal. I tend to shy away from glitter and rhinestones and opt for timeless, classic pieces instead.

Well apparently I decided to throw that rule right out the window this year because I can't seem to stop buying sparkly things. I'm currently using the excuse of stocking up for festival season, but I suspect that I'm secretly unleashing the glitter beast that has always lived deep inside me. It all started with this magnificent silver sequined top from H&M that I simply HAD TO HAVE. In reality, everyone needs this item because it's AMAZING and you can literally wear it everywhere/anywhere. Don't believe me? Watch me do it.

This February is also stacked with exciting new projects and work-related challenges for me. It's been great news for my career, but not such great news for the perpetual bags under my eyes. Late night work sessions are definitely starting to wear on me, and unfortunately my face is starting to show it. It's cool though because I've discovered the best way to hide those pesky bags and dark marks.

When I first heard someone explain the concept of color-correcting to me, it literally blew my mind. What a simple concept! Gone are the days of people asking me if I'm feeling ill or if I need to lay down for just a sec. Hello fresh-faced 2014!

Color correcting is the process of using complimentary colors to bring your skin back to (in my case) brown. The bags under my eyes tend to be tinted blue/purple so I use an orange/yellow color corrector. Color correctors or concealers can be found in all kinds of shades, but the most popular ones tend to be yellow, orange, salmon pink, and mint green. If you'd like to look a little less like a zombie, take a look at your naked under eye skin in the mirror and put that elementary school art class complimentary color knowledge to good use!

My go to color corrector right now is L'Oreal's True Match Super-Blendable Crayon Concealer in W6-7-8. I absolutely love the consistency of it and it matches my skin tone perfectly!

Another favorite for me this month has been my (wait for it).... NAKED 3 PALETTE. OMGGGG. Best birthday present ever from my best bear ever. The Urban Decay Naked 3 has definitely kicked the collective asses of every other eyeshadow palette I acquired as Christmas presents. Sorry, Mom & my Reddit Secret Santa.... I just can't help it.

If you have this palette, you understand. And if you don't have this palette, let me tell you it is 100% worth every penny (that I totally would've spent if Hillary hadn't forbidden me from entering Sephora before my birthday). Every shade in the rose-gold family is gorgeous and highly pigmented, and if it wasn't an eyeshadow palette, I would probably try to make sweet, sweet love to it. But it is an eyeshadow palette. So that would be weird.

Lastly, we can't forget that flawless beauty starts with flawless skin. I've always been a huge proponent of moisturizing, but this year I've  stepped up my game a notch. We're not just moisturizing our limbs before bed anymore. No, no. We've moved forward to nourishing our limbs, lips, faces, AND hands. On my person at all times? My Bliss Fabulips Lip Balm and my travel size Burt's Bees Almond Milk Beeswax Hand Cream. I'm absolutely obsessed with this hand cream and so are all the people sitting in a ten foot radius of me when I'm applying it. It smells better than anything I could ever describe to you guys, so you should probably go out and buy it. Now.

And that'll about do it. Of course, my fashion and beauty faves are ever changing... and this list doesn't even include everything that's on my wishlist. If you'd like to keep up with my absolute latest obsessions, check out my Pinterest boards: Fantasy Closet and Bear's Beauty.

What are you guys loving this month in the realm of fashion? Got an essential product that I simply must try? Drop it all in the comments below and I'll be sure to check 'em out (and of course give you a shout out if your rec makes it into next month's round-up)!

Don't forget to pop by next Tuesday for this month's TunesDaze playlist!!

Glitter-coated kisses, xx Nikbear
